Anemones are polyps of the class Anthozoa.
In fact, an attribute of the entire class Anthozoa is the absence of a medusa. These complex polips originated from scyphozoa medusae. Scyphozoans usually display a four-part symmetry, they eat a variety of crustaceans and fish, which they capture using stinging cells called nematocysts. They are very specialized animals.
